Facelift
(Rhytidectomy)

Facelift Rhytidectomy Gary S Berger MDAs you age, your face changes. Your skin loses its elasticity and the skin may begin to bunch in several locations. Muscular bands become more apparent. A face-lift can help restore the look of your youth by selectively canceling out those features which signify age. The cheeks are elevated, folds are flattened, jowls are tightened, the neck is redraped, and excess skin is removed. Your appearance is not replaced, but a younger appearance is restored.

There are several variations of face-lifts. Skin-only face-lifts were popular many years ago and are still used in select situations. The most commonly performed SMAS intermediate depth face lifts achieve their lift at deeper levels. Deep plane face lifts strive to achieve these changes just above the bones of the face. The incisions are made just in front of the ear and wrap around the back of the ear and hide within the hairline. Newer short-scar facelifts are used when possible to avoid lengthy incisions. During surgery, the anatomy of the face becomes more defined.

The next day, dressings are removed. Sutures are removed over the next week or so. The amount of swelling that you may get is variable, but you can resume most normal activities within a week and should show very few signs of your procedure by three weeks.

Brow Lift
(Forehead Lift)

Brow lift forhead lift Gary S Berger MDBrowlifts can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, browlifts involve the removal or alteration of the muscles above the eyes to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.

While browlifts are typically performed on patients aged 40-60 to counteract the effects of aging, anyone with lined or inelastic skin on the forehead - whether it's caused by muscle activity or inherited conditions - are eligible. The procedure is usually performed in an office-based facility or surgery center under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation.

Endoscopic browlift: As opposed to the log incision of the traditional browlift or the short hairline incision of a lateral browlift, the surgeon makes three to five short incisions (less than an inch long) behind the hairline. The endoscope is placed in one so Dr. Berger can see beneath the skin without having to make a large incision. Then he lifts the skin and adjusts the muscles through the other incisions. The skin is then secured with stitches or screwed (temporarily) into place, lifting the eyebrows. A head dressing is placed for a few days, but the results can be seen immediately.
