Eyelid Surgery
(Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and/or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes.

The procedure is usually performed in the operating room under anesthesia and lasts 45 minutes to a few hours depending on how much work is done. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). Dr. Berger removes excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. In the case that no skin needs to be removed, Dr. Berger will likely perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars.

Stitches are removed after three or four days and most people return to work in ten. Contact lenses may not be worn for two weeks. The effects of blepharoplasty can last for a long time and are sometimes even permanent.

Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty/genioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Dr. Berger may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.

Ear Pinning
(Otoplasty)

Otoplasty is done to correct protruding ears. It happens to be one of the few cosmetic surgeries performed on children, usually prior to beginning elementary school.

An incision is placed in the natural creases behind the ear and the cartilage of the ear is weakened so that it bends into a new shape. The cartilage is also stitched into position to hold the ear into position. The patient's head is completely wrapped for a few days to protect the newly shaped ears.
