Face
Dr.
Berger is able to enhance
or refine areas of the face and neck for both women and men using surgical procedures and chemical
treatments. Congenital
deformities (birth defects) and abnormalities resulting from accidents
or disease, can be corrected as well.
As we age, our face changes.
Skin loses its elasticity. Skin begins to bunch in several locations.
Muscular bands become more apparent. A face-lift can help restore the
look of your youth by selectively canceling out those features which signify
age. The cheeks are elevated, folds are flattened, jowls tightened, the
neck is redraped, and excess skin is removed. Your appearance is not
replaced, but a younger appearance is restored.
There are several variations
of face-lifts. Skin-only face-lifts were popular many years ago and are still
used in select situations. Intermediate depth face lifts achieve their lift at
deeper levels. Deep plane face lifts strive to achieve these changes just
above the bones of the face. The incisions are made just in front of the
ear and wrap around the back of the ear and hide within the hairline. The
anatomy of the face is defined. Muscles and connective tissues are tightened,
excess skin is redraped and removed. The next day, dressings are
removed. Sutures are removed over a period of days as you heal. The amount of
swelling that you may get is variable, but you can resume most normal
activities within a week and should show very few signs of your procedure by
three weeks.

Frown lines and furrow lines
above our noses and
in the middle of your forehead will give you an unwanted older appearance.
Under stress and as we age, we tend to make faces that encourage the creases,
giving us the serious, unhappy look.
A brow lift eliminates these
lines and is one of the only procedures that allows a plastic surgeon to
access the hard to reach muscles that cause furrow lines. A brow lift can
also restore the eyebrows to a higher, more youthful position and eliminate
some of the extra skin gathered on the upper lid.

Although a formal,
complete neck lift is very similar to a facelift, frequently the neck
line can be improved with smaller procedures, or, even, liposuction
alone.
When
the tumescent technique is used in the liposuction of your neck and
chin, the areas of fat are injected with an anesthetic which causes
the fat to become swollen, or "tumesced". The
resulting expanded molecules make the fat particles easier to remove.
You will begin to notice the difference in your new look almost
immediately after surgery.

The
nose is the most prominent feature of the human face. For many people, it is
simply a part of their good looks and rarely merits a second thought. For countless others, the nose is an almost constant source of embarrassment.
Today, however, plastic surgery can correct a multitude of faults. Rhinoplasty can shorten, tilt up, build up or straighten. Rhinoplasty can make the
most prominent feature on your face a permanent source of pride. It can give you
a whole new appearance and a new outlook on life.
Rhinoplasties
are individualized to meet the patient's needs and expectations. All
rhinoplasties are performed through predominantly internal incisions and usually
include an improvement of the nasal tip, straightening of the dorsum and
adjustment of the bony nasal skeleton. These procedures may be performed as an
open procedure with a small externally visible incision through the columella
(base of nose) or may be performed as a closed procedure where all of the
incisions are hidden. Different advantages exist in either approach. The choice
is usually left to the discretion of your plastic surgeon.

Eyelid
surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove excess skin and muscle from the
upper and lower eyelids. The procedure can correct drooping upper lids
that tend to sag with time and the puffy bags below the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be done as a single procedure, or in conjunction with other
facial surgery such as a facelift or a browlift.

Chin augmentation is the use
of synthetics or biologicals to augment, or make the mentum/menton bone
structure of the face more prominent. It can give balance to an otherwise less
defined face or further augment an already existent chin structure. Chin
augmentation is frequently performed in conjunction with nasal surgery in
order to provide more aesthetic balance to your face.

Otoplasty
is done to correct protruding ears.
It happens to be one of the
few cosmetic surgeries performed on children.
An
incision is placed in the natural creases behind the ear and the
cartilage of the ear is weakened so that it bends into a new shape. The
cartilage is also stitched into position to hold the ear into position.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein that weakens muscles that
wrinkle the skin. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding
the eyes and forehead to reduce "frown lines", "worry lines"
and "crow's
feet". The procedure is quick and
usually done in an examination room.

Collagen is a protein found
in the second layer of skin known as the dermis (the first layer is called the
epidermis). It is injected under the dermis layer to add fullness
to areas of the face such as the lips and cheeks and to fill in areas of
superficial skin wrinkles and deep skin creases and lines.
Restylane
is composed of a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid gel. It’s proven to
give long-lasting correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds,
with documented results that last six months, or even longer. It has an
excellent safety profile with over one million treatments worldwide. It is a
simple and convenient procedure and no allergy testing is required.
Fat injection involves
extracting fat cells from the patient's abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere
and reinjecting them beneath the facial skin. Fat is most often used to fill
in "sunken" cheeks or laugh lines between the nose and mouth, to
correct skin depressions or indentations, to minimize forehead wrinkles and to
enhance the lips.
There are many new
injectable fillers under review and investigation at this time and we plan to
offer these in our office when available.

TCA is a non-toxic chemical
that has been used to perform skin peels for over 30 years. Unlike some
other peels, TCA peels have the advantage of creating a fresh natural
appearing complexion, while preserving the normal skin color. For this
reason, they are often referred to as "freshening peels".
TCA peels can effectively
improve many conditions, including:
-
Dull, weathered skin
-
Freckling
-
Blotchy pigmentation
-
Sun damage
-
Fine wrinkles
-
Shallow acne scars

AlloDerm is a unique
biomaterial that is processed from donated human tissue. Just like your own
tissue, it provides the missing components needed by your body to fill in a
deep furrow or to bring new life to a damaged area -without the doctor having
to cause additional damage to your body to get it.
When a significant amount of
soft tissue is lost, either due to injury or disease, serious problems can
develop. Replacing the damaged or missing tissue with AlloDerm results in a quicker recovery time with less complications.
Using AlloDerm, for implantation purposes, reduces the likelihood of
rejection, which can happen when a foreign substance is placed into the body.

The Obagi system combines
specially developed products with medical supervision and counseling to treat
your skin from the inside out. This program works on the surface to smooth
roughness and correct damage like uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. It
also penetrates below the surface to stimulate cell renewal, improve
circulation and help restore your skin’s natural moisture.
